Iconic punk rock band Stiff little Fingers and new wave act The Rezillos have today been announced as this year’s headline acts for the Scooter Tent. Belfast’s…

Iconic punk rock band Stiff little Fingers and new wave act The Rezillos have today been announced as this year’s headline acts for the Scooter Tent.

Belfast’s Stiff Little Fingers, who headlined the very first Wickerman in 2002 will undoubtedly deliver a raucous performance in the hugely popular punk & ska tent on Friday 26th July, while on Saturday 27th Edinburgh based five piece, The Rezillos, will take to the stage to stir up the crowds. Joining them on the bill are Anti-Nowhere League, Vice Squad, Random Hand and Buster Shuffle.

Stiff Little Fingers are returning to the festival after announcing that the band record their 10th studio album this year. The four piece’s signature style of personal and political lyrics, mixed with the energy of punk is certain to be a hit with Wickerman fans. Playing directly before them are Vice Squad, the punk band formed in 1978 and fronted by the legendary Beki Bondage.

Influential Edinburgh band, The Rezillos will top the bill on Saturday night. The new wave punk act are influenced by the likes of The Ronettes and the Shangri Las and their inimitable sound shot the group to underground fame in the neo-punk scene. Anti-Nowhere League will make their first appearance at the festival in 2013, treating revellers to their hardcore punk sound.

Friday’s line up is completed by Random Hand, who have toured extensively sharing their ferocious ska-punk-metal style; Nick Welsh with his show ‘The Life & Times of a Ska Man’ which includes songs from his four decade ska and reggae career; The Kubricks, a seven-piece band from London with their own brand of Ska-Pop; Scooter Tent favourites Bombskare; Davy and The Hosebeat, 2Tone ska originals Capone and the Bullets; Annan boys More From Jim and Molotov.

On Saturday, East London’s Buster Shuffle will get the Scooter Tent bouncing with a piano bashing pop, indie and ska set. They will be joined by the ever popular, spikey, ska pop act The Amphetameanies; 4ft Fingers, a band that shaped the British punk rock and ska punk scene in the early 2000s; The Ramones all female tribute act The Ramonas; Slagerij; local lads The Hostiles; The Negatives and Urang Matang.

Helen Chalmers, Wickerman’s Festival Coordinator, commented:

“Wickerman’s roots are steeped in punk and ska and the Scooter Tent has become pretty legendary. We’ve waited a long time to welcome back Stiff Little Fingers and we’re delighted that they alongside The Rezillos accepted our invite. It’s a cracking line up and we cannot wait to see the crowd bouncing for two days solid.”

New wave rock band Vukovi will headline the tent on Friday, while Saturday’s lead act will be tech-electro trio Roman Nose. They will be joined by Fat…

New wave rock band Vukovi will headline the tent on Friday, while Saturday’s lead act will be tech-electro trio Roman Nose. They will be joined by Fat Goth, TeKlo, Woodenbox, Siobhan Wilson, Vigo Thieves and Fake Major, as well as other rising stars.

Glasgow four-piece Vukovi will be returning to the festival with the promise of a raucous performance and a sound influenced by the likes of Skunk Anansie and Rage Against the Machine. The band’s reputation for delivering a storming live set was built on sold out shows throughout Glasgow and its alternative, experimental sound is guaranteed to be a hit with Wicker fans. Vukovi will be joined by energetic electro act Teklo, dubbed ‘One to Watch’ by the BBC, and his yet-to-be released new material is sure to wow the crowds.

On Saturday, Solus will pick up the pace with masked trio Roman Nose who write, produce and direct their own tech-electro stage shows. Their bass-heavy existence and heart-crunching sound is set to have the tent jumping. Also announced for Saturday are hotly tipped act Vigo Thieves, a Wishaw band who use driven beats, explosive synthesisers and soaring emotionally charged vocals to produce epic songs which echo the likes of New Order and U2.

Other line-up additions include alt-folk sextet Woodenbox who have been working alongside acclaimed producer Paul Davage to release a second album. Also announced are Dundonian three-piece Fat Goth whose fast-paced, dirty basslines and thumping lightening quick beats effortlessly blend moments of off-kilter instrumental perfection. Solareye, the emcee of Edinburgh six-piece Stanley Odd whose word craft is awesomely eloquent, will also take to the stage. The Solus Tent will also see RUNGS, Honeyblood, Siobhan Wilson, Behold the Old Bear and Young Philadelphia commanding the stage on Friday.

On Saturday, Flutes who is famous for its deep choruses and progressive hypnotic melodies, will be entertaining fans as well as widely acclaimed duo Fake Major, who will be drafting in some additional limbs to help create a live sound similar to the full band arrangements heard on its first EP Have Plenty of Fun. They will be joined by Machines in Heaven, Bears Arms, Kayce One and Toni Smoke, Vasa, The Recovery and Saint Max and the Fanatics.

Chay Woodman, Wickerman’s Solus tent booker, said:

“It’s fantastic to have Vukovi back and Roman Nose are the perfect band to close the stage for the weekend – a very Solus-esque band. It’s truly impossible to predict what will happen in Scottish music and I like to think that maybe our wee stage at the top of the hill with the strange name works best when that unpredictable element is in full effect.”

The goNORTH Festival Tour Tent will also be making a return to Wickeman in 2013 to showcase the best emerging talent from the Highlands and Islands, other parts of Scotland, the rest of the UK, and a selection of international contenders. Acts are invited to apply to be part of goNORTH via their website http://gonorthfestival.co.uk/music-submissions, don’t delay, submissions close on 1st April 2013.

Spring has sprung and we’re bursting with news as the second wave of main stage acts is announced today. Headlining the festival on the Saturday will be Scottish singer songwriter Amy Macdonald. Joining her on the Summerisle stage will be The Enemy, KT Tunstall, Dexys and Bellowhead amongst others.

Award-winning artist Amy Macdonald will take to the stage on Saturday 27th July to entertain festival goers with her first Wickerman performance. Her heartfelt sound and raw performance style promises a rousing set that will include tracks from her three critically acclaimed albums.

She will be joined on the bill by The Enemy who promise top quality, unapologetic rock’n’roll, and hits from their three UK top ten albums. Performing on Friday 26th is multi-platinum selling artist KT Tunstall. KT, who will be returning to the spotlight this summer after an 18 month break, will be performing a mix of new material from her much anticipated fourth studio album and classic hits from her back catalogue.

Also announced today are British band Dexys (previously known as Dexys Midnight Runners). The new six-piece incarnation of the group are set to whip up the crowds as they perform their acclaimed show “One Day I’m Going to Soar” (the album in its entirety, in sequence) plus a few Dexys favourites.

The eclectic Summerisle line-up will be further enhanced by popular contemporary 11-piece big band Bellowhead who have won the Best Live Band accolade an unmatched 5 times over the past few years, as well as Best Album (for ‘Broadside’) at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards in 2013, and up and coming eccentric singer-songwriter King Charles, who released his debut album last year. Four-piece Glaswegian band Holy Esque are also set to deliver a powerful performance and Scotland’s Roddy Hart & The Lonesome Fire will be making their mark with their darkly compelling mix of classic Americana and Celtic soul. On the Saturday the North Tyneside Steelband will perform a lively blend of musical styles including calypso, jazz and pop, their infectious performance is guaranteed to be a crowd pleaser.

Wickerman Festival Coordinator Helen Chalmers is delighted to be revealing this raft of new additions to the 2013 event. She commented: ‘Wickerman prides itself on offering festival goers a truly diverse line-up, so it is fantastic to announce acts that cross so many different genres of music. With Amy Macdonald, The Enemy and KT Tunstall joining already announced Primal Scream, we are confident that this year’s festival will be the ultimate summer party and we are looking forward to announcing further exciting line-up additions over the coming months.’

Amy Macdonald commented, “I’m really looking forward to headlining the Wickerman festival this year as I love being able to play in Scotland and I have heard the Wickerman audience are a great crowd to play for. There is always a great atmosphere so I am looking forward to a great evening together.”

We have today proposed a novel new initiative to help smitten music fans pop the question…festival style.

On the 14th February, Wickerman we’ll play cupid by launching a nationwide competition offering twelve music-loving romantics the opportunity to propose to their partner in a new Wicker Love Lounge – a unique setting created especially for this year’s festival.

Following the growing number of proposals taking place on the festival site in previous years, we will set the Love Lounge in a luxury handcrafted yurt, with the beautiful festival site as a scenic rural backdrop.

It will be decorated to create the ultimate romantic setting, complete with a bespoke wicker kneeling stool and ring to help gentlemen (or women) seal the deal – handmade by the craftsman who creates the iconic ‘Wickerman’ at each year’s festival. Celebratory champagne, locally picked flowers, photographs and the couple’s signature song will add to the experience.

Festival Coordinator Helen Chalmers says: ‘If music be the food of love, then this year’s festival is the perfect place to ‘play on’ and we are delighted to launch our first Wicker Love Lounge. Wickerman has a reputation for being one of Scotland’s most relaxed and friendly festivals and it is also becoming known as quite a romantic event. From last year’s Wicker wedding which was covered on BBC3’s Don’t Tell the Bride to the spectacular flyby aeroplane proposal, more and more festival goers are professing their love on-site. We have already had a 2013 wedding request and are hopeful that our new Love Lounge will provide a truly original proposal setting.’

To win one of the twelve ‘Wicker Love Lounge’ slots, which will take place between 5pm and 7pm on both days of the festival, entrants must submit 100 words on how they met their partner and why they want to propose at the Wickerman Festival. Entries will be accepted from the 14th February to 14th April 2013 via wickerlovelounge@burtgreener.co.uk. Successful entrants will be notified by 30th April and arrangements made to ensure that their unique Wicker proposal stands the best chance of receiving a ‘yes’!
