Hide and Seek Festival (Mar 2nd) //

In another exciting twist to the Wickerman story we have recently teamed up with Manchester's Hide and Seek festival. Running from the 29th May to the 1st June this very well intentioned event will feature around 150 acts in more than 20 venues.  Showcasing bands to the music industry and supporting Versus Cancer gives us an indication of how the organisers "From Bed Events" and "Speechless With Sound" are putting themselves out for the benefit of others. In support of the festival one of the Hide and Seek acts will open the Wickerman main stage on Saturday afternoon.

Cheap and Very, Very Cheerful (Feb 25th) //

As the credit crunch looms closer and fuel prices send our home bills through the roof, it all looks a bit on the bleak side.  That need not be the case as hooray, the good news is the Wickerman ticket price of £75 plus booking fee is extremely competitive when compared to other festivals.  Add in the fact that if you are 12 years or under you go free (don't forget an adult) and both car parking and camping are without charge then we reach the conclusion that Wickerman is not out to empty people's pocket.

Remember we should work to live not the other way around, why not treat yourself to a ticket and join us in July for a spot of heather, weather and blether.

7stanes - Mountain Bike Trails (Feb 22nd) //

Apart from grooving at the Wickerman, the coolest activity in the South of Scotland has got to be riding the 7stanes mountain bike trails. Billed as "Scotland's biking heaven", the 7stanes offer a unique experience to novices and experts alike. Single track, berms, cross country, gnarly and North shore are just some of the intriguing terms associated with this growing sport.

We are currently working with our friends at the 7stanes to offer you mountain bike taster sessions run by leading experts, to put together a skills display team and last but not least a mountain bike/Wickerman holiday and accommodation package for those wishing to make more than just a weekend of it.

Keep cycling back for more details and in the meantime check out the 7stanes site on www.7stanes.gov.uk

Hacienda Tour //

Known throughout the world for its pioneering super club status Manchester's Hacienda opened in 1982 and closed its doors in 1997, a fifteen year spell which saw the club pass through the rave and Madchester era.

Considered to be the birth-place of the 90s, the Hacienda served as a catalyst for some of the era's most memorable acts.

The Hacienda tour aims to recreate the feel-good factor of the early and middle years by bringing a number of back to back DJ sets in a themed environment.

For Wickerman 2008 we have secured sets by New Order's Hooky, Bez of Happy Mondays and Black Grape fame and Graeme Park.  Adding more flavour to this stereosonic gastronomic hacienda delight are DJ Herbie and percussionist Chris Crooks with the very real possibility of another huge name from the summer of love being announced in early spring next year. Keep skulking back to check on this and other line up developments.

If you were too young, too late, too far away to have experienced the Hacienda then the Wickerman’s Hacienda Tour may be the next best thing.

Headphone Disco //

The surreal spectacle of hundreds of people dancing in complete silence whilst wearing giant space age headphones will be coming to the Wickerman in 2008.

Headphone disco gives you the chance to freak freely secure in the knowledge that any spectators will not have a clue about what you are dancing to.

Corridors Of Power!

An honourable mention for the Wickerman in the Scottish Parliament!  MSP Derek Brownlee has lodged a motion for the “high heid yins” of Scotland to recognise our achievement in winning the Grass Roots title at the UK Festival Awards. Not only that…he wants his fellow MSPs to note our contribution to the cultural and economic life of Dumfries and Galloway.  Our wee festival has been the talk of the steamie for some time…it now looks like we’re on the agenda of those who stalk the corridors of power in Edinburgh.

Wickerman Wins Top Award

The UK Festival Awards ceremony took place in London on Tuesday the 6th November. Organised by Virtual Festivals, the night saw event megaladons and minnows cheek by jowl in starry eyed anticipation of an award. A disappointing night for some but not for the Wickerman - we picked up the gong for the Best Grass Roots Festival!

The award was presented by none other than Black Affair’s Steve Mason alongside the Cuban Brothers. Thanks went to Glastonbury's Michael Eavis for inspiration and advice but more importantly thanks went to the people who voted for the Wickerman. Without the ongoing support, advice and practical criticism from the audience the event would not be what it is today. So many, many thanks to all of you from all of us. Please feel free to join us in a spell of glory basking before we knuckle down to ensure that Wickerman 2008 lives up to its newfound reputation!
